Noah Pool (they/them) is an Adjunct Instructor of Flute at the Greenwood School of Music at Oklahoma State University. Passionate about contemporary music, they’ve enjoyed commissioning works from fellow queer voices. They received their Bachelor of the Arts in Instrumental Performance from Missouri Southern State University and Master of Music in Instrumental Performance and Pedagogy from Oklahoma State University under flute professors Dr. Elizabeth Robinson and Dr. Erin Murphy, respectively.

As a passionate performer in various chamber and folk groups, an ensemble that they recently founded with oboist Jake Hutchinson and pianist Yeongju Choi (Ensemble 2-2-1) was recently featured in a residency through the New York Philharmonic in January 2024 and performed a tour at various locations in NYC including at the Aaron Copland School of Music–Queens College.

Originally hailing from Missouri, he has performed on flute and piccolo in the Missouri Philharmonic in addition to performing solo and chamber recitals. Currently in Oklahoma, he is involved in the graduate woodwind quintet in addition to serving as principal of both the wind ensemble and orchestra at the Greenwood School.

With a brief history as a vocal student, they like to be involved and support the goings-on of the opera and choral departments. They have played alongside his peers and instructors in various cantatas and have pursued work performing underscoring for various musical theatre and opera works.

New music is another passion that Noah enjoys. They have judged composition competitions as part of the Flute New Music Consortium and internationally as part of the National Flute Association’s Composition Competition. Any chance he gets, they enjoy premiering works as part of ensembles and as a soloist. They recently premiered works they commissioned from composers Chris McLaughlin and Rishi Malhotra at the Flute New Music Consortium’s New Music Festival and the Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention.

As flute instructor of the Greenwood School of Music’s Preparatory Academy, they fill much of their time teaching middle and junior high school students. In addition to this, they maintain a private studio in the Stillwater-Oklahoma City area. When they were a Teaching Assistant, they served as assistant director, fundraiser coordinator, and performer in the Oklahoma State Flute Ensemble, which was a featured ensemble at the 2023 and 2024 National Flute Association Conventions in Phoenix and San Antonio

Performing and Activism are where Noah’s passions truly lay. They currently enjoy serving a four-year term on the National Flute Association’s Board for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility in addition to working on their recording project of works by queer composers as part of the boards Young Artist Mentorship Program.
